The film, based on a 2007 novel by Alex Flinn, hit theaters on Friday, March 4. It also stars Mary-Kate Olsen as the witch who transforms Kyle. While few would argue that Pettyfer was better-looking before his "Beastly" makeover, Hudgens said she was actually into kissing her sometimes gruesome co-star.
"It was fascinating, honestly. I kinda loved it. It was really, really interesting," Hudgens told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "It was one of those things where you feel like you should look away, but at the same time, you can't stop staring. It was just a really beautiful thing. It's a beautiful love story and to be able to capture that through these two characters, who you normally wouldn't put together, was really neat."
"I think it's a beautiful, beautiful message that 'Beauty and the Beast' puts across," she added. "You know, not judging a book by its cover and that was the main thing that drew me in. But Alex Flinn, the book itself, was driven in a kinda dark and sexy and edgier way and that, I thought, was just really cool."
Earlier in the month, Hudgens announced that she's chosen her wedding dress designer, despite the fact that the actress recently split from her long-time boyfriend and "High School Musical" co-star Zac Efron in December.
In "Beastly, a modern take on "Beauty and the Beast," a New York teenager named Kyle, played by Pettyfer, is transformed into a hideous monster and is forced to find love without the aid of his appearance. When he falls in love with a beautiful girl named Lindy, portrayed by Hudgens, he only has a small window of time to make her love him back.Watch the this interview video with Vanessa Hudgens here at http://www.ontheredcarpet.com/video?id=7993225

The actress told Details magazine recently that she was "figuring things out" with Efron and that the two are still friends.
Hudgens has been filming the sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth," entitled "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." Hudgens worked with Oscar-winning actor Michael Caine, 77, who the actress says put the moves on her.
Last week, the actress was reportedly getting "touchy" with her "Journey 2: Mysterious Island" co-star Josh Hutcherson ("The Kids Are All Right") at a party last week.
Hudgens also stars in the upcoming action film, "Sucker Punch," a Zack Snyder movie about escaped female insane asylum inmates who live in an alternative reality in the '50s. "Sucker Punch" is set for release on March 25, 2011.
